Cole in LINE and WhatsApp groups: what changed in September
Product update, . Changes shipped between 20 and 28 September 2026.
Group chats are where a lot of real planning happens: a landlord sends listings, a friend shares flight details, a teammate asks who is handling the next step. In September we changed how Cole behaves in LINE and WhatsApp groups so he can actually help in those conversations instead of only reacting to messages sent straight to him.
Cole keeps up with the conversation
Before, Cole only stored the messages addressed to him. If three people posted options and you then asked "@Cole make a shortlist", he had nothing to work from. Now, in LINE and WhatsApp groups linked to your workspace, Cole keeps the messages that were not addressed to him as context. He does not reply to them. When someone does ask, he can work from what the group already said.
This applies to LINE and WhatsApp groups today. Telegram and Slack groups still work the way they did, where Cole sees the message that mentions him.
He answers to a nickname
Some groups give Cole a name of their own. If your group agrees on a nickname, Cole now answers to it the same way he answers to "Cole", so a message that starts with the nickname reaches him. "Cole" always keeps working.
Mentions in LINE groups
Ask Cole to nudge someone in a LINE group and he can mention them by name, so they get the notification. He can mention members he has seen in that group. Mentions he receives also arrive with the names attached, so "remind @Alex about the deposit" is clear about who is meant.
A set of photos is one request
When you send several photos or files together, Cole now treats them as one request and replies once, instead of answering each picture separately. Sending ten listing photos and asking "which of these has a balcony?" gets one answer about all ten.
One reply at a time on WhatsApp
If you add another message while Cole is still working on an answer, he finishes the current answer first and then handles everything you added as one follow-up. When other messages arrived in between, he quote-replies, so it is clear which message he is answering.
Your private chat knows your shared groups
In a private WhatsApp chat, Cole now knows which groups you and he are both in. When you mention "the family group" or "the project group", he knows which conversation you mean. If you want Cole in a new group, he explains how to add him.
