Cole vs Meta AI in WhatsApp groups
Meta AI is WhatsApp's own assistant: it is free for everyday use and answers in a group when someone types @Meta AI, or reads new messages if a member adds it to the group. Cole is a separate assistant from Pocodot that you add to the group by phone number; it answers when tagged or named, posts reminders into the group later, and works with each person's own email and calendar.
The short answer
Use Meta AI for quick answers, polls and summaries inside WhatsApp at no cost, where Meta has made it available. Use Cole when the group needs things done later or outside the chat: reminders that post at the right time, weekly messages, and requests that use someone's own email, calendar or a phone call. Cole also works in LINE, iMessage, Telegram and Slack groups.
Every statement about Meta AI below comes from Meta's or WhatsApp's own pages, listed under Sources. Where we found no Meta page on a point, we say so instead of guessing.

When Meta AI is the better fit
- Everyone already has it in WhatsApp and there is nothing to add or sign up for.
- You want quick facts, recommendations, polls or a summary of a long thread, as Meta's group page describes.
- Cost matters most: Meta says Meta AI stays free for everyday use.
When Cole is the better fit
- The group needs reminders that post later: "Cole, remind everyone on Friday at 6pm to bring the deposit", or every week. How group reminders work.
- Someone wants a task done with their own accounts, such as adding an event to their calendar or drafting an email, with a check before anything is sent.
- You want a phone call made for you, on a paid plan, to numbers in the United States, the United Kingdom or Thailand.
- Your groups are spread across apps: the same Cole works in LINE groups, iMessage groups, Telegram and Slack.
- You want house rules, such as "only answer when someone asks you a question", and an off switch for each group.
Can a group use both?
They work separately. A message that mentions @Meta AI is for Meta AI, and Cole only replies to messages that tag Cole, use its name or reply to it.
How to add Cole to a WhatsApp group
@Cole hi in the group from the WhatsApp number on your account. Cole answers from your own credits, then asks you once, in your private chat, whether your account should pay for everyone in the group. Say yes, and everyone in the group can ask Cole. Nobody becomes the payer without saying yes, and the group is not told who pays.Full steps and limits: how to add Cole to a WhatsApp group. Privacy rules for groups: how Cole works in group chats.
