ChatGPT alternatives for WhatsApp in 2026
OpenAI says ChatGPT is no longer available on WhatsApp after 15 January 2026, and Microsoft said the same of Copilot. Inside WhatsApp you can still use Meta AI, which is built in, or an assistant that works with WhatsApp, such as Luzia, Poke or Cole, the AI assistant from Pocodot that you message like a contact or add to a group. Or keep using ChatGPT in its own app.
Why ChatGPT and Copilot left WhatsApp
In October 2025 OpenAI announced that, because of a policy and terms change from WhatsApp, ChatGPT would no longer be available on WhatsApp after 15 January 2026. Microsoft announced in November 2025 that Copilot would leave WhatsApp on the same date, for the same reason.
The change is section 4.7 of Meta's terms for the WhatsApp Business Platform. It bars providers of AI technology from the platform when the AI is the main thing being offered rather than a part of a business's own service. Meta lists exceptions where it says it is legally required to allow such use: Italy since 16 February 2026, Brazil and the other EU and EEA countries since 11 March 2026, and Türkiye since 15 October 2026. We found no OpenAI page saying ChatGPT came back to WhatsApp in those countries.
What you can use instead
| Option | How it works with WhatsApp | Good for | Price, on its own page |
|---|---|---|---|
| Meta AI | Built into WhatsApp, in limited countries. Chat with it directly, mention @Meta AI in a chat, or forward it a message with a question. | Quick answers, and private summaries of your unread messages where available. | Free for everyday use, Meta says; paid Meta One plans add more AI usage. |
| ChatGPT app | Not in WhatsApp. Use the ChatGPT app or website; its group chats are in the app too. | Everything you used ChatGPT for, outside WhatsApp. | ChatGPT's own plans, including Free. |
| Luzia | Its site says it is "available in the app and on WhatsApp"; its agent mode is in beta in select countries. | A personal assistant. | Free, with an upgrade called Luzia+. |
| Poke | A contact you text through Messages, WhatsApp or Telegram, connected to your apps. Its site says Poke is joining Cognition. | A personal assistant with reminders and automations. | Free; Pro $19 a month; Ultra $199 a month. |
| Cole | You message Cole's WhatsApp number like a contact, and you can add it to a group as a participant. | Reminders, email and calendar with your own accounts, research, files, phone calls, and help inside group chats. | Free to start with 150 one-time credits, then from $19 a month for 2,000 credits. |
Microsoft Copilot is not an option inside WhatsApp any more. Perplexity's own page still invites people to try Perplexity on WhatsApp; we found no Perplexity statement on whether it still answers there after 15 January 2026, so check before you rely on it.
Your old ChatGPT chats from WhatsApp
OpenAI asked people to link their WhatsApp chats to a ChatGPT account before 15 January 2026 so the conversations would appear in their ChatGPT history. It says WhatsApp conversations do not transfer automatically after that date, and that WhatsApp does not support chat exports. If you linked your account in time, your chats are in ChatGPT, not in WhatsApp.
What Cole does in WhatsApp
- In your private chat: answers questions and looks things up, reads photos and files you send, and sets reminders.
- With your own accounts: once you connect Gmail, Google Calendar or Outlook, Cole drafts email and puts meetings on your calendar, and asks before anything goes out in your name.
- Phone calls: on paid plans, Cole calls numbers in the United States, the United Kingdom and Thailand for you and saves a summary and transcript to Call History.
- In groups: add Cole's number to the group and it answers when someone tags it, calls it by name or replies to it. See how to add Cole to a WhatsApp group.
Your private chats with Cole on WhatsApp, Telegram, LINE, iMessage and Slack share context when they are linked to the same Pocodot account.
We make Cole. For every other product we used only its own pages, listed under Sources, and we say so where we found nothing.
Honest limits
- Cole is not ChatGPT and cannot bring over your ChatGPT conversations.
- Every answer uses Pocodot credits; the free plan has 150 one-time credits, and phone calls need a paid plan.
- In a group, Cole sees only messages sent after it joined, and it cannot join from an invite link.
- Meta AI and Luzia say they are available only in some countries; check their pages for yours.
