What Cole can and can't do in a WhatsApp group

In a WhatsApp group, Cole answers when someone tags @Cole, calls it by name or replies to one of its messages. It sets reminders for the group, makes lists, sums up what was said, posts polls, runs trivia, reads photos and files people send, and looks things up on the web. One person's account can pay for the whole group, so nobody else needs an account. Cole can't yet message people outside the chat for you, read a group from your private chat, join from an invite link or pin messages, and very large files or many files at once have limits.

What Cole does in a group

    • Answers when you tag it

Cole replies when someone tags @Cole, calls it by name or replies to one of its messages. A follow-up question from the same person right after its answer needs no new tag. Once an account pays for the group, what members write also reaches Cole as background, so it can answer “what did we agree this morning?”

@Cole what time did we book the pitch for Saturday?

    • Reminders for everyone

Ask in the group and Cole posts the reminder there when it is due, once or on a daily or weekly schedule. It says the day, time and time zone back, so a mistake is easy to spot.

Cole, remind everyone on Friday at 6pm to bring the deposit.

    • Lists

Ask for a packing list, a shopping list or who brings what, and Cole writes it in the chat. A long list can become a page with a link you can share, even with people who don't use Cole, and checklists remember what was ticked.

Cole, make a list of who is bringing what on Sunday, then make it a page.

    • Summaries

Cole sums up what the group discussed from the messages it has kept since it joined, and it can post a summary every evening if you ask.

Cole, summarize what we discussed today.

    • Polls

Cole can post a basic WhatsApp poll in the group, with 2 to 12 options and one or several answers allowed.

Cole, make a poll: dinner on Friday or Saturday?

    • Trivia

Cole posts one question at a time. People answer by replying to Cole's message or calling it by name, and Cole tells each person whether they got it right.

Cole, give us a film trivia question.

    • Photos and files

Send a photo, PDF, spreadsheet or Word document and ask about it. A set of photos sent together with one question gets one answer. Files shared in a chat are kept for 7 days and can only be read back in that same chat.

@Cole which of these flats has the bigger kitchen?

    • Web lookups

Ask a question that needs the web and Cole searches it, sums up what it found and cites its sources, in the group where everyone sees the same answer.

@Cole is the museum open on Monday?

Settle it in the group chat

    • One account pays for the group

When someone with a Pocodot account first tags Cole, Cole asks them privately whether their account should pay for the group. After their yes, anyone in the group can ask Cole without an account of their own. From their private chat, the payer can set a monthly credit limit per person or turn Cole off in that group.

    What Cole can't do yet

These are the limits people run into most, each with what to do instead.

    • Message someone outside the chat for you

Cole replies in the chats it is in. It doesn't start a WhatsApp chat with someone else on your behalf.

Instead: Add the person to the group, or forward Cole's answer to them yourself. For email, connect Gmail or Outlook and ask Cole in your private chat; it asks you before anything goes out in your name.

    • Read a group's messages from your private chat

Your private chat with Cole doesn't get a group's messages, so Cole can't read the conversation back to you there. If you have written in the group in the last 180 days, Cole can use its notes from that group in your private chat.

Instead: Ask in the group itself, for example “@Cole summarize today”. From your private chat, the account owner or an admin can still have Cole post a message in the group right away, after approving the exact text.

    • See a group it wasn't added to

Cole only sees groups it is a participant in, and only messages sent after it joined.

Instead: Add Cole to the group, then share again anything it needs from before.

    • Join a group from an invite link

Cole can't join from a group invite link, and that includes a community link.

Instead: Save Cole's number as a contact and add it from Group info, Add members. If only admins can add members, ask a group admin to do it.

    • Pin messages

Cole can't pin a message in the group.

Instead: Ask a group admin to pin it in WhatsApp, or ask Cole for a reminder that repeats the details when people need them.

    • Very large files, or many files at once

Cole has limits on very large files and on many files sent at the same time, so some may not be read.

Instead: Send big documents one at a time, or split a long one into smaller parts, and ask about each.

    • Hear a voice note you reply to

If you reply to someone's voice note in the group and tag Cole, that voice note does not reach Cole.

Instead: Forward the voice note to your private chat with Cole.

    Frequently asked questions

Does Cole read everything in the group?

Cole replies only when someone tags it, calls it by name or replies to one of its messages. Once an account pays for the group, what members write also reaches Cole as background, which is how it can recap what was decided. It can't see messages from before it joined. Cole's notes from a group never show up in another group, though members who have written there can ask Cole about it in their own private chat. Nothing from your private chats or private notes comes into the group. Conversations are never used to train AI models.

Who pays, and how do credits work?

Cole's work in a group is billed to the account that set the group up with Cole: the person who said yes when Cole asked privately. Everything Cole does uses a few credits, a short answer a few and a longer task more. You start free with 150 one-time credits, paid plans add credits every month, and top-up packs start at $3. If an action fails, no credits are charged.

How do I add Cole to a WhatsApp group?

Save Cole's number as a contact and add it to the group from Group info, Add members. Then tag @Cole once from the WhatsApp number on your Pocodot account, and say yes when Cole asks in your private chat whether your account should pay for the group.

How to add Cole to a WhatsApp group

How do I remove Cole or turn it off?

Remove Cole like any other participant from Group info; Cole never leaves a group on its own. To pause it instead, the account owner or an admin can turn Cole off in that group from their private chat with Cole.

Is it the same in LINE, Telegram and Slack groups?

Not exactly. In LINE groups, as in WhatsApp, what members write reaches Cole as background. In Telegram groups Cole only receives the messages that tag it, and in Slack channels it answers when someone mentions it. This page is about WhatsApp.
